This gun was built at the height of the 5/16" vs. 3/8" diameter shaft debate. It was originally going to be fitted with a standard 65" x 5/16" shaft and 4 bands but an upcoming trip to Puerto Vallarta, and the chance at a big tuna got Hansel thinking about a bigger gun. Normally, a 72" x 3/8" setup would be in order but since Hansel weights 135lbs soaking wet, we came up with a better plan.

This photo was taken during the gun's "sea trial" at San Clemente Island. First shot was a 33lb yellowtail! Unfortunately, Puerto Vallarta didn't produce any tuna or other gamefish. |
An extra band was added and the UHMW enclosed track was machined to accomodate an 11/32" diameter shaft. Mori was kind enough to cut a 67" x 11/32" shaft down to 65" and a smaller, extremely versatile tuna gun was created.
Currently, this gun is offered in a 4-band, 65" x 11/32" model and a 5-band, 67" x 11/32" model.
We'll post more pictures of this gun when we head south to dive with Hansel again, so check back! |
