As a woodworker and amatuer guitar builder, I've always appreciated "figured' wood grain; and in particular, tiger-striped maple. With some experience with wood dyes, and a little planning, 1/16" veneers of the figured maple were laminated on the rough-shaped gun at various stages in the building.
The pre-drilled muzzle ferules were re-drilled through the veneers and after final shaping and sanding, the lightly colored maple was dyed with UV-resistant blue dye.
Several layers of epoxy were added to ensure the gun was well-sealed, and would not de-laminate. The resulting deep blue color, combined with the tiger striped maple, seemed to mimic the natural camoflage of a lit up wahoo.
The concept ended up working well, and this time, stretching the limits didn't ended up stretching the trash bin. |
