What can I say about this gun except that it was all Amadeo Bachar. Since I started building custom guns, I have had the good fortune of collaborating with some very talented people, and Amadeo is no exception. Here's an exerpt from his website, www.abachar.com
"Well, it should be abundantly apparent that I draw my inspiration from the ocean, and all things within it. Growing up on the coast of California, it was hard not to be inspired by the natural beauty that surrounded me. The amazing thing is that for how beautiful California is above water, drop your head beneath the waves and the amazing factor goes up 10 fold. Ok, maybe I'm biased for all things marine, but that environment provides color, curiosity, and drama to fuel my creative drive far beyone this lifetime." |

I wanted to create the ultimate camouflaged gun and after experimenting with rice paper graphics, like those used on surfboards, Amadeo came up with the idea of actually painting kelp onto the gun itself. After some lengthy trial and error attempts, which included sanding off 12 hours of Amadeo's first version, the Kelp Monster was born.

Using shading, Amadeo intertwined the stalks and leaves to give the gun depth. The background was colored with a different shade of green to mimic the greenish water white sea bass hunters know all too well. Gold flake was added to the leaves in the foreground for a special touch, and the transparent paints Amadeo used highlighted the natural look of the heavily figured teak I had been saving for a special build like this. To protect this amazing piece of art, the gun was coated with 5 layers of sprayed-on epoxy. |
